Electrically Powered Bicycles Laws by Country

Electric Power Bicycles or E-bikes has different laws depends on each country. In many nations, a top limit on the power of the electric motor is imposed if the vehicle is to be legally classified or taxed as a motorized bicycle.


In Australia, E-Bikes or electric powered bicycles do not require any registration.

In India, E-Bikes or Electric Powered Bicycles does not require any registration in R.T.O. Office.

In Japan, electric motor bicycles are required to incorporate a pedal-assist drive in order to avoid registration as a motorcycle.

In Canada, eight provinces currently allow electric power-assisted bicycles. In comparison some custom designs of E-bike have a range of up to 40 miles and a maximum speed of +55 mph.
